The Move to a Modern Data Platform
The Move to a Modern Data Platform in the Cloud. Pitfalls to Avoid and Best Practices to Follow

The desire to stay competitive, deliver better customer experiences, and gain greater business agility is driving companies to move their data platforms to the cloud. Data analysts and scientists want modern, advanced analytics that are self-service. Companies who are well down the path to the cloud now have multiple projects involving various parts of the company but often without any notion of access, governance or security common across these projects. This quickly opens the door to risk and confusion.

This session will focus on critical data management practices that companies should adopt to achieve the desired benefits and avoid the pitfalls that could lead to complex expensive architectures and unattainable enterprise or regulatory governance requirements.

The Connected-Economy in the Digital Age - Models & Strategies
The Connected-Economy in the Digital Age - Models & Strategies

In the session, Ikuo Nakagawa, Co-Founder and Board Member at Transparent Cloud Computing Consortium, will introduce the big change toward the "connected-economy" in the digital age. He'll introduce and describe some leading-edge business cases from his original points of view, and discuss models & strategies in the connected-economy.

Nowadays, "digital innovation" is a big wave of business transformation based on digital technologies. IoT, Big Data, AI, FinTech and various leading-edge technologies are key components of such business drivers.

Digital innovation also brings big changes in the economic model. For example, transaction models in business scenes have been changed. Historically, we paid money for goods. That means, `what you have' is important to buy something. In the connected-economy, digital companies provide a special experience for each personalized customer. In the model, `who you are' is more important for customizing the service.

The Transparent Cloud Computing Consortium is the activity where we research such digital innovations and also propose T-Village, a new concept of a future city. He introduce the overview of the consortium activity, as well.

Digital Transformation Maturity Model SLG as One Platform
Digital Transformation Maturity Model SLG (Solid, Liquid, Gas) as One Platform

New technologies and processes have propelled dramatic shifts in how data and logic interact to create customer experiences. Having evolved from mainframes to new forms of digital transformations, leaders of various industries are asking themselves: What’s next?

The answer is Platform Oriented Architecture – the precipice of Digital Transformation. This platform is never something to be built from scratch. It should set the foundation for the marriage between everything you’re already doing to everything you want to launch in the future.

Cloud based platforms play an important role in digital transformation by creating an integration metric and API economy. Imagine all the different services you will need for your own Digital Transformation journey – Data Migration, RPA, DevOps, QA; a Cloud Based Platform gives you the ability to implement these services with reduced configuration time and lower cost, thus allowing our clients to stay ahead of the competition and increase their bottom line.

Your new Cloud Based Platforms delivers the value in three categories:

• Strategy - Once an assessment of your technologies capabilities has been completed, a platform diagram can be built providing a positive IT foundation and mapping out your digital initiatives for the next three years.

• Customer experience - Starting with customer centric design solutions, the Cloud Based Platform’s API economy allows for simple integration of new apps that your customers are asking for, further enhancing their experience.

• Technology - Having a Cloud Based Platform creates the capably of using vendor neutral technology solutions which are the right fit for your customers.

Through our expertise, Fulcrum has built templates for specific domains. If your business is related to Higher Education, Supply Chain, Food Industry or E-Commerce, we have something to accelerate your journey into digital transformation for your business. Our knowledge in the customer domain allows us to apply the customer logic on top of a Cloud Based Platform and thus problem solve any issues that may arise during the digital transformation process.

Platform Oriented Architecture – SLGLike all earlier computing architectures, the SLG platform is a “box” comprised of three states of matter — solid, liquid, and gas — that work together to enable digital transformation.

• Solid – Analytics and Insight – With a data structure comprised of big data, this element includes both data science and intelligent data; today, we call this machine learning.

• Liquid – Operational Workflow Logic – Between the solid and liquid layers, there is a “data handshake,” wherein robots (RPA), AI, automation, SaaS apps, DevOps, chatbots and other smart software retrieve information from an ocean of intelligent data. This handshake is necessary to translate the raw data so it can be interpreted by applications to create an experience for a specific medium.

• Gas – Holistic Experience – The information translated by the logic is molded by the applications to take the form of whatever container you put them in, much like gaseous matter. Now, what was once solid, formless data can be interpreted by the software of its container and displayed on phones, tablets, desktop computers, smart watches, IoT devices, the cloud, virtual reality, augmented reality and more.

Look at what customers are asking. Understand what new business is demanding from the market. Then, fast track the process to create the experience. The new architecture will work if your people and culture embrace the agile, rapid delivery mindset. This is the essence of Digital Transformation.
