Got Cloud: The Democratization of Analytics

A Scenarios approach will present examples that illustrate the democratization of technology consumption, specifically focused on analytics.    Cloud Computing is a catalytic agent driving ease of consumption, with OpEx based pricing, with low capitalization costs.   These factors of ease of consumption and more of a real-time experience has also changed the behavior of how business leverages technology with data-driven decisions.

Outline:

1. Financial analytic compute that used to take a day, now takes a few minutes at 10x lower TCO due to the ability to leverage virtualization technology by VMWare.
2. Exelon, based in Chicago leverages a large Cloud provider to compare native RISC-based computing of their enterprise financial analytics batch runs by their Finance Department to provide for a more real-time response.   Instead of taking 24 hours for batch processes to be completed over-night, these batch runs now take a few minutes. 
3. Acme Trading Company leverages data analytics to discover key trading strategies based on a handful of simple scenarios and typical outcomes based on Market data compared in tandem with trade execution.   This historical data had taken days to perform and now takes a few minutes empowering trading staff to make changes in their trading behavior faster when encountering Market volatility.  
4. Beer Analytics:  A distributor or bar-owner has the capability to capture analytics based on by installing flowmeters at the bar’sline at the Point of Consumption (POC). In this way, so each poured drink, brand of beer poured brand can be measured in real time.
