Adding “Compute” to “Sharing Economy” using Ad-hoc Networking to Build Device-Cloud

The hierarchical architecture that distributes "compute" within the network especially at the edge can enable new services by harnessing emerging technologies. But Edge-Computing comes at increased cost that needs to be managed and potentially augmented by creative architecture solutions as there will always be the need to catch up with the capacity demands.

Processing power in smartphones has been enhanced year over year and there is increasingly spare compute capacity that can be potentially pooled. Companies have successfully been able to harness e.g. the excess capacity of privately owned vehicles and homes and turned into a meaningful business. This concept can be leveraged further to harness the spare compute capacity of smartphones that can be orchestrated by MEC to provide cloud service at the edge.
I propose a "smart ad-hoc networking" approach to build “device-cloud” that opens door for new opportunities to monetize. This cooperative networking approach will be augmented with a proactive and predictive security framework.
